How does Barefooters sizing work?

Barefooters are designed to fit with a little ‘latitude’. Because CorksiLite™ is very flexible it’ll wrap around any of your foot’s little imperfections (corns and such) and will give a little for wider feet without needing to be made ‘wide’. These shoes fit a lot like a glove. Generally speaking, Barefooters fit true to size for women. Though men in the half sizes, say 10 1/2, might prefer to size up to a Euro size 45. See our sizing chart to help you find your size.

What is the BioCalce certification?

BIOCALCE is a certification that ensures comfort and quality, resistance and durability in footwear that uses only toxic free materials for the user and the environment. A product has to pass through a wide range of laboratory tests in order to use the BIOCALCE label. The shoe models have to provide considerable levels of resistance (low wear, do not split, do not rip up, do not tear), do not inhibit sweating, do not stain the user’s feet and do not contain chemical substances in harmful levels for the user’s skin and the environment.

Barefooters is very proud to have earned this is a rare certification in the shoe industry: click here to learn more.

How do I start Feeling Great in my Barefooters?

Barefooters® Feel Great® because they’re made to feel that way. Barefooters® were created to give you a great barefoot walking experience with all the protection and fashion of a shoe. And, they’re made from CorksiLite™ – a unique patent pending cork and silicone combination that absorbs shock and vibrations, repels odors, and is environmentally friendly. There are no irritating seams inside so you don’t have to wear socks if you don’t want to. You can wash and dry them quickly, scrunch them up in your luggage and they’ll spring back into shape. They insulate your feet from stones and hot asphalt, provide great traction and help you feel connected to the earth. And feeling great is also in part because Barefooters come with Oooaaahs® insoles that are designed with reflexology principals in mind to give your feet a stimulating massage with every step. We suggest starting slowly to let your feet and legs get used to walking the way nature intended. And, once you’ve worn your Barefooters tell us know about your Feel Great® walking experience in the Feel Great® Community discussion - click here.

Why are Barefooters made in Italy?

Barefooters makes its shoes in Italy because some of the best shoe designers are there (yes, that’s you Matteo!) and the very best shoe mold makers have called Italy home for many decades which is essential to making a great fitting shoe (Andrea–put aside your modesty and take a bow). And last, but not least, we have a great factory that really knows what they’re doing (under Davide’s terrific leadership), works extremely hard with customer satisfaction and quality always top of mind, and they too are in Italy! That said, Barefooters is an international company with American know how, Canadian imagination, Portuguese cork and many helping hands from countries the world over. So, made in Italy is only part of our story–Barefooters are made by many and we will always listen to our customers to have them be made by you as well–so please talk to us: click here
